Heart Healthy Eating Tips
* Limit Salt-High salt intake can lead to high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for
cardiovascular disease. American Heart Association (AHA) recommends no more than one teaspoon of
salt per day for an adult

* choose fresh, frozen, canned and dried fruits and vegetables for a heart healthy diet; rinse canned
   vegetables to reduce excess salt
* cocoa powder and dark chocolate contain the most phytochemicals – reduce BP, dilate blood vessels
prevent excessive blood clotting, help to control blood sugar and act as antioxidants = reduce risk for
heart disease. Amount of dark chocolate to get benefits = 1 ½ ounce
