It was the Crock heard round the world when hit TV series This Is Us featured a Crock-Pot-induced fire that killed off a major character (rest in peace, Jack). Now, intelligent pressure cooker maker Instant Pot is reacting so that its appliances won’t end up having the same mortal effect.
In a Facebook post to the “Instant Pot Community” group, the company announced that it had received reports of its machines overheating, which has resulted in potentially dangerous “localized melting damage to the underside of the product.”
Before you rip your Instant Pot from the wall and throw it out the window, the reports have been tied only to the company’s Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker. If you own one of these, check your Instant Pot’s batch code, located at the bottom right of the silver label on the bottom of the machine. Batch codes 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746 are at risk of overheating, so owners should “immediately stop use of the product” and contact the company immediately at 1-800-828-7280(x2).
The company is working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate the problem, and is planning to issue replacement machines to those affected by the problem, so if you are the owner of a Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker, give Instant Pot a call and stay tuned.
If you came all the way here just to learn that your Instant Pot isn’t affected by these issues, hey, better safe than sorry. But in any case, please accept our apologies in the form of these 19 inspired Instant Pot dinner recipes. So easy. So perfect for weeknight dinners.
